Cataracts of the eye cause all sorts of visual problems in people, and are especially common in the over fifties. At the examination the specialist will be able to work out which of the intraocular lenses will work best for you. Most of the time these will then work perfectly once you have them implanted. Occasionally you may require having them fine-tuned afterwards, which involves simple laser treatment, however this is not too common.
Second Step – The Cataract Removal and Lens Implant
On the day of the procedure you will arrive at the hospital and be given time to rest and get ready. Once you are comfortable the eye drops will be administered and this is how your eyes are anaesthetic. Once the eye drops are working you will be taken to have the procedure which is carried out by a specialist NHS surgeon.
Each eye needs to be worked on to remove the old lens and add the new one. You should expect each eye to take about twenty minutes.
Third Step – Recovery
You may suspect that having implanted contact lenses would mean a longer recovery period compared with laser eye treatments. However, you will only need to stay in the hospital as long as it takes for you to feel you are ready to go home. Most people stay about an hour and then head home for a good night’s sleep.
The following day you should wake up and find your eyes feel a lot better already, and that your eyesight has dramatically improved. The eye hospital will be more than happy to answer any of your questions or concerns that you have after the procedure.
